Here is the first draft or the 4WD1 sized aluminum rover. The base is large enough for the motors, batteries, and motor controller, and maybe some odds and ends. There will be a series of “add on decks” to allow mounting additional items to the rover. There was an error on the 4WD3 sized parts so I have to wait for new samples.
Like the title says, this is a very early preview, so give me some time to make some Lexan support items and I will shoot some more images that will look a little more finished.
I was able to “fix” the parts enough to build up the prototype. I can’t express enough this is very early in the design process. The lexan panels are blank at this point. The tires are narrower, the foam inserts are more rigid, and the rims and hubs are dramatically improved. There is much much more ground clearance, measuring in at 1-1/4" or 1-3/4" depending on orientation. There is a lot more room inside compared to the 4WD3, but the overall hieght of the chassis is lower in the new design. I am still experimenting with many aspects of the new designs, so please be patient. 8)
WOW! … I mean WOW! That looks great!
Now I really can’t wait.
I just wish I had an SES arm now instead of my L6 that I was going to put on it. Maybe I’ll have to get one anyway in the distant future (when I can afford it), and swap them over. I have my doubts as to how good the yellow L6 arm will look of that beast.
