Using SSC-32 Inputs

So. two questions, both about inputs on the ssc32:

  1. Can I run an output from Lynx arm 1 on an ssc-32,say pin 16, to an input on another arm by just wiring them together? I would like to know if I can do this without a relay.

  2. I would also like to run an output on a Vex cortex: (about 3.5 volts) to an ssc32 input. 3.5 volts is not enough to trip a 5v relay, so the relay will not work. Can I wire them directly and send the signal for 1/2 second or less without doing damage to the SSC32? I’ve actually tried this, and it works, but I have a lot of people who want to do this, and I do not want to tell them it’s ok, if it will eventually damage either component.

Thanks in advance!

In general you can connect a TTL output to a TTL input over relatively short distances. You will need to observe voltage levels (3.3 vs 5), or convert as needed.

You can connect one SSC-32 output directly to another SSC-32 input just remember to also connect a ground wire from one to the other. The better way would be to use an opto isolator, but direct connect will certainly work. Connecting the vex output to the SSC-32 input is also no problem at all. 8)
