Uptech CDS5500 - Protocol

I purchased a CDS5500 from RobotShop which is said to be compatible with the Robotis AX-12, and the same commands are supposed to control either servo. Unfortunately, it’s not as straight-forward as I’d hoped. I’ve used both an Arduino, and my PC to talk directly to the AX-12, but the same devices and same commands used with the CDS5500 result in…well nothing, no response, sadly just an inactive little motor. Another unfortunate is that there is lack of details on how to work with the CDS5500…in fact, they guide you to the AX-12 datasheet.

So the short of it is, has anyone gotten these servos to work, and if so how. I realize there is a UP-Debugger which is UPTech’s own controller, but I prefer to interface directly to the motors which should be possible as it is with the AX-12s.

We need more info about your confirguration and setup.
The following are some aspects to consider:

  1. What Baudrate do you use? The CDS55xx does not support arbitrary baudrates, only 9.6k\19.2k\57.6k\115.2k\500k\1M bps are supported.
  2. Try to use a Robotis USB2Dynamixel and its software (or UP-debugger and our “RobotServoTerminal” software) to test it.
  3. Please post the instructions / code you sent to the servo.

Please note that CDS55xx is not a direct replacement for the AX12+, thereare still some difference between them, although you can use most instructions associated with the AX12+.

The UP-debugger is not a controller, it’s a three-function board and can be used as a USB-to-CDS55xx adapter. We will follow up when you post your reply and we’re sure we will soon the reason why you can’t get it to work.

Sorry for the lack of English documents, we translating as fast as we can. UPTECH Robotics will release the CDS55xx datasheet and a full manual in about 10 days.
