Upgrading the Viper

Umm hi…

I have a RC viper that I am not going to use specificaly for sumo competitons and I want to enhance its pushing ability. I am using the 12v 50:1 GHM-02 motors and I am running them at 7.2v. I realize that I am undervolting them but I am not sure if i can fit a 12v battery pack into the vipers body. (The top electronics bay is empty as i have found a way to fit all of the electronics inside.) I am wondering if I should try to overvolt my motors and if so by how much. Also, I am wondering if I should replace the wheels that came with the viper with urethane tires.

Any advice on improving the power and traction of my viper would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Replace those 12v motors with the 7.2v 30:1 motors that Lynxmotion sells. Then swap the gear heads. They are interchangeable.

Then use the 7 cell battery packs (8.4v) since they fit inside the two holes already there.

More torque, more speed.

Improving traction can be done by changing the wheels, or increasing the weight of the robot.
