I’m trying to design an UAV with maximum takeoff weight of 25kg and that has to land in the sea and stay there for some time(like a week) and i was wondering which engine should I use.
I was thinking about 3 electric engines but i can’t find one that can match the thrust i need.
On the other hand a combustion engine could be more efficient but i would need a remote starter for the UAV to come back, which probably would increase the weight.
Can you help me find an engine that fits?
This is not an easy project indeed. I’m looking to use a plane system and I’m thinking about a combustion engine.
I’ve read about UAV’s and it says that we should use an engine that generates a thrust that’s twice the MTOW although I’ve seen projects in which a 25kg plane flies with a smaller engine like the UAV28-EFI TURNKEY that it only generates 10kg of thrust.
How should I start a perfomance study?
How should I know if I need a 28cc ou 150cc engine for example?
Thank you.
Combustion engine will give you some headache, we suggest going brushless electric.
The frame design is something very important if you want to make long distances with a smaller motor. You are not looking for a motor which can climb vertically.
The frame manufacturer usually suggest motor and maximum payload.
Still the eCalc software is a nice tool.
