UAV Lidar/Rangefinder WIFI

Hi Everyone,

First off, I am new to the robot world. What I am trying to do is attach a device to a R/C UAV that can measure the depth of craters in the ground. I am trying to see the delta between the flat ground and a crater. The data would have to be able to be sent to a WIFI connection. I have looked at rangefinders and lidar systems but don’t know what to piece together to reach my goal. Also, the accuracy has to be as within inches.

We hope to bring in some lightweight laser rangefinders shortly (0-50m) which you should be able to mount to the copter.
We are still in negotiations with this supplier so we do not have any ETA at this time.
The copter should measure its own altitude based on a pressure sensor and GPS.
