UAV / Drone Flight Regulations & Restrictions - Canada | RobotShop Community

Transport Canada: More and more people are flying drones and UAVs. Transport Canada regulates their use to keep the public and other airspace users safe. Before you take to the skies, make sure you understand the rules and follow them. Not doing so could put lives at risk and cost you up to $25,000 in fines and/or jail time.

What are the restrictions, if any, for flying on the USA side (over water) of the border to record something near the Canadian border. Specifically the “Old Sow Whirlpool” off the coast of Eastport Maine and the coast of Deer Island NB.

@bob johnson Flying over the border may raise some eyebrows and get some attention. Flying over a border is not the best idea, despite some potentially great scenery. If you still want to risk it, you might want to see if there is a border security manager you can talk with and show him your drone (nothing illegal) to get his / her verbal permission. They would not help you retrieve it should something happen over the water, but at least they won’t arrest you either.
