Twitching servos? (even w/ sep logic and servo power)

Hi,

Recently I purchased a SD21 servo controller to control 3 Hitec 5995 servos. I was able to use it to control the servos, but even after separating logic power (using +5V from a power adapter) and servo power (using a power supply set at +7V and ~6A), all the servos slightly (but were noticeably) twitching/jittering/shaking when connected to the servo controller. Although the Hitec 5995 servos drain huge amounts of current (~5A) while loaded, they were twitching while idle (not being moved and not under any load at all), and the power supply was only slightly current limited when the servos moved.

I’m looking to buy a ssc-32 now, but I don’t want to have the same twitching problem with the servos. I’m thinking the problem with the twitching servo may be caused by the fact that logic and servo gnds were internally connected on the sd21 and noise from the servos disrupted the logic through the shared ground. Is this plausible? Does the ssc-32 have shared grounds between its logic and servo? Has anyone experienced jittering servos connected to the ssc-32?

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks!

I remember users of the Devantec servo controller complaining about the 5995 servo being littery, they eventually found that the servo controller had a 1 to 2uS jitter in the output that normal analog and less precise digital servos never noticed. There are posts in this forum about it. The end result was the person spoke very highly of the 5995’s ability to “see” and respond to the jitter. lol  The SSC-32 does not have this jitter problem.
