Twirpy Is a project that has been going on for almost two years now.
The project started as a simple idea that I had whilst in college, I wanted simply to build a robot! The image of twirpy was already in my brain , I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like so I got started. My only issue being that I had absolutely no electrical or mechanical knowledge that I needed to build such a thing! So naturally I started teaching myself everything from basic electronics, programming arduino circuits, and simple mechanical theorys. This knowledge was accelarated on my engineering course whihc gave me enough know how to begin the build! After six months of on and off work I finally completed my first version of Twirpy which i designated the T1G as in Twirpy version one ground drone. So the satisfaction of such a project being finished was pretty good, which has now plunged me into a spiral of wanting more!
Improvment and professionalism was the next step, I had a plan to build a much larger professionally built robot known as Twirpy 2, The designs and ideas for this project can be found on my facebook page, unfortunately I have had to put the Twirpy2 project on a hold mainly due to funding issues As i have recently started an aeronautical engineering apprenticeship in Cambridge meaning im having to rent so my income is very low at the moment! So this is why I am currently working on Twirpy 1.5, or T1MG ( Twirpy version 1 mini ground drone) This project currently utilizes the original projects programming and functions, focussing more on the hardware side of the project. I have been allowed to use resources at my new work to build a brand new sexy body for Twirpy! The body is made from real aircraft grade aluminium and is considerably smaller than the original body.
The project is a work in progress so far, the uses for the robot are a little hazy at the moment as its potentially capable of alot of things, I am planning on making the project open source once its closer to finalization. The project will hopefully allow people to programme their own personal companion/ helper robot as they please! Not to mention it being cute and adorable !
I welcome any feedback good or bad! As long as its constructive of course.
