I’m trying to get started with building robots as i want to go into exploration robotics for a furture job, but i dont know where to start, i want to get a kit of sorts but most kits are specialised to one robot but i want a kit that give me the stuff to experiment with and learn part by part to then eventually be able to build a project of my own design, insted of an instructional kit specialising in a specific robot. Ive looked into this for a while but i cant find any kits that are just a bundle of parts to get me started to learn. Ive currently already got a raspberry pi 2 with some wires, breadboards, ,lights and resistors but im a bit limited with what i can do with that, i sort of want to go into making a moving controlled robot that has practical features as my goal of learning. Additionally, I am up for getting a kit with all of that the parts i already have and getting an arduino insted of the pi, just incase you think i wont want to rebuy those specific parts.
Would really appriciate any help with my situation.

If you are planning on going into robotics as a career I think it would be the best idea. A formal education will almost be a requirement as well. The better educational kits that have a lot of different parts and allow you to build different robots will complement a formal education well. Simple kits are limited. Makeblock and Vex, and even Lego, provide good kits that allow you try out variious ideas.
That’s my opinion.
Yea i looked at the lego mindstorms but its a bit too basic i think as i do already have python experience. Thats why i was looking at things like the arduino that i could learn and code myself?
There are alternative languages for Lego, but that is kind of a kludge.
Makeblock normally uses Arduino, which is a good idea.
I’m not real sure about what Vex uses.
You could always just buy a whole bunch of parts, but I would recommend a kit of parts, like Makeblock. It’s a versatile system and they know what parts you will need. You can build whatever with those parts and add more parts later if you wish.
Its hard to know what to buy if you dont know what you want to build. Are there any specific types of robots you like more than others?
I had the exact same problem when I did my first shopping, ended up buying a sensor/ Arduino starter package that i still havent used xD, except for the Arduino itself ofcourse. Only after watching alot of youtube and reading countless build threads did I finally settle on something.
I also get that you dont want it to just be a kit with “no possibility of upgrades”, but in reality everything is upgradeable. -->
I know this is bit out of scope but, what actually got me going was buying a 3d printer. Having the ability to create your own parts just makes the ideas flow so much easier. So maybe thats the way to go for you aswell?
