Trying to determine what components I need to complete my project

Hello, I’m working on a specialty robot that weighs roughly 40 lbs when finished. The speed of which this robot will move will be a very slow walking pace of 1 to 2 MPH. The motors I have chosen are power window type (see link below). The employment of the angled motors are to achieve this space restriction when you see the other pictures down below. The end goal in creating this device is to move forward and backward with speed control with steering capabilities. This would also include a kill switch and possibly a potentiometer. Not being versed in electronics, I’m not sure if the potentiometer and speed control are the same. Whatever the case, it’s a matter of space as you can see from the pictures. I suppose this component that I’m seeking which I assume will be a circuit board, will achieve my goals.

The challenge I face is with my limited understanding of electronic parts and how to mate them to various components. This is beyond my scope and I’m hoping that someone can help me understand what I need to do to complete the circuitry.

The powersource I’ve chosen is for a rechargeable Dewalt 18 V battery using a power connector dock with two lead wires.

If there is anything else I can provide, please let me know.

@goldrush10 Welcome to the RobotShop Community. The following tutorial series should get you up to speed with the basics and terminology:

The table of contents needs to be fixed, but you can find them all here:

This will include what a “motor controller” does (you’d need a two channel DC motor controller) and how to select it, as well as what a “potentiometer” is and does. If you have questions after reading through these, feel free to reply here.

On another note, getting a 4WD platform to turn using skid steer is not really easy, and not sure using just one motor on each side of the chassis you built is enough to have it rotate on the spot (since the other two wheels will effectively need to rub sideways as it rotates).
