Trouble with Roomba 4130

My 4130 was running great on the carpet. Now it runs great on a hard floor but when i put it on the carpet it runs very slow for a couple of minutes then the status light turns red and stops. When its going very slow on the carpet it goes a few inches then goes another direction. We have cleaned the cliff sensors and it hasn’t helped. I have had the wonderful machine for two years and maybe its time to give it up. Don’t know how long they are to keep working.

Thank you for your help. We took the motor apart and there was fuzz in it. We cleaned it out and put it back together. It now works great. I love my roomba.

Hi sudzytwo,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum.

Have you verified the yellow brush bearings on the sides of your brushes? Sometimes debris will cause the brushes to have a hard time turning, especially on carpet since there is more resistance on the brushes. When the robot stops, with the red status light, does it do any beeps?

It is also possible that there is debris inside the brush motor or main brush casing gears.

You may want to try turning the brushes by hand to see if they are able to turn properly.

We suggest you consider a Roomba repair considering that it is difficult to determine what the problem is with your robot without a proper diagnostic. 99.9% of Roomba’s are repairable and it costs much less than buying a new robot. We repair all Roomba’s which are part of the discovery series and 500 series. Please see the following link for information on our Roomba repair service.

You may also consider repairing the Roomba yourself. Please visit our Roomba parts section.
