Hi, I have recently purchased a basic atom 28 pin chip and bot board 2 to mount with. After following the setup instructions i connected it up to my Fujitsu Siemens laptop using a belkin usb-serial adapter model F5U257 and it started to cycle through all its output’s as expected. After loading up Basic Micro IDE, I used the auto setup to find the atom processor, as it searched the com port the atom was connected to, the cycling throgh the atoms output changed slightly but the IDE then reported it could not find the processor. After trying this a few times I went back to basic micro and downloaded their new basic micro studio but came to the same problem.
After sifting through the forums i tried a variety of different ideas. Firstly i tried using a powered usb hub incase it was due to lack of power from the laptops usb ports however this made no difference. Then following other advice i tried multiple reset hold times using the IDE, trying every value between 0 and 100 (yes i was bored!) however this made no difference either. After trying this i went to change the belkin settings to see if this made a difference, i changed bit rates and played with FIFO buffers, I also wanted to try adjusting the latency as some had reported this made a difference but none of these ideas worked.
Trying a change of plan i scrapped the laptop idea and tried on a PC Athlon (without a serial port so still using the belkin adapter) to see if that would change things. After going through all the same processes, neither of the basic micro IDEs could still find the atom. Therefor i assumed by elimination it must be the belkin adapter causing the problems!
I scrapped the adapter and dug out a slightly older evesham pc tower block that had a serial port on it and booted this up, installing the basic micro IDE’s. I was feeling quite positive about this idea, thinking that without the adapter there was 1 less piece that could go wrong. So i plug in my basic atom into the serial port and now instead of cycling through all the outputs, only the red light flashes :-/ ! I tried finding it using the IDE and it still could not find the processor however the red light did change its flashing as it searched the com port the atom was attached to.
Thinking that maybe i had knocked the atom so not all the output pins were working, I tried it again on the laptop with the belkin adapter and hey presto , all the outputs are cycling again! So now i am stuck wracking my brains for a reason why firstly the atom doesnt connect when plugged it using the usb adapter with the laptop, and secondly why not all the outputs are cycling when plugged straight into a normal serial port!
Here is my setup :
Any other ideas or help would be greatly appretiated!!!
Thankyou
