track vehicle

Hello
This is my first time on this site.

I am building a track vehicle (skid steer) with a gear motor and linear actuator on board.

It is not a toy, but actually a small working machine about 4 ft. square and 2 ft tall

My skill is in the mechanics, but for the electronics, I have enough knowledge to be dangerous.

Do you have someone that can tell me what components I need to drive this (RC)?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

RWW

What parts have you chosen already?

Hello Coleman
Thank you for answering

The motors used for mobility and skid steer are 2, Anaheim Automation BDSG-71-110-24V-3000-R25.

They are 24volt, 3.5A gear motors.

This motor is also used onboard as the third motor.

The linear actuator onboard is 24 volt at 3.0A (full load.)

For the drive motors, you just need a dual channel brushed DC motor controller which can output at least 5A (gives you a bit of a margin of safety) at 24v:

Note that some controllers which indicate 24V as max can accommodate a bit more (charged 24V battery) whereas others might not.
Note too that some controllers don’t include the 3-pin R/C cable, which you can purchase separately:

Same goes for the linear actuator, and although you really only need a single channel as opposed to a dual channel, most come as dual (you’d only use one).

Thanks a lot for your help.
One last thing, what radio would you recommend?

It sounds like you only need three channels, and four channels is the norm.
The DX5e offers good value and has proven to be reliable: robotshop.com/en/spektrum-5- … =RB-Hoh-01
This is very similar to the Optic 5 from Hitec:

It’s up to you if you want to invest in something which offers additional channels or features.

Hello again Coleman.

I have completed the mechanical of the prototype vehicle, and now need to control it by radio.

Since my last email I have made some changes to my motor selection.

The biggest change is going from 24 volt to 12 volt motors.

(It seems that 24 volt lithium ion battery packs are extremely expensive.

Since this is intended to go to production I believe for this reason, 12 volt is best.)

I would like to know if you can supply a full operating system for the vehicle. (plug and play)

Can you recommend the components required by part number?

The device is a skid steer vehicle (track) .

It uses a 12 volt DC gear motor, on each track.

A 12 volt linear actuator to lift a 6 ft. boom.

And another 12 volt gear motor at the end of the boom, to operate a cutter.

It should have the ability to adjust the maximum speed by pot on the driver board.)

All motors draw about 2.2 amp.

To operate using the radio.

The drive motors on the tracks will have speed and direction control, forward, stop , and reverse.

The boom will be raised and lowered with the actuator while the drive motors are running.

The cutter motor will operate also simultaneously with the other motors.

The drivers will have a pot to set maximum motor speed.

One last thing, will these components be from stock?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Richard

Yours is a custom setup, so no, there is no plug and play system; you’ll need to design it. However, it sounds like you only need a few DC motor controllers with analog (potentiometer) input, so setup should not be too hard.
