Total nubies to the topic of robotics

hi everyone.

being very new to this area, i really wish there was a biginners page or forum. in looking at all the other forum in the index and some of the threads, i find my self totally lost.

i just bought the phoenix kit and all the extra gear that it sounds like i needed to get a bot up and running. bought what i thought i could afford in the form of electronics. tried playing with them and am going nuts wandering what i need to do to know if every thing is working like it should?

it would be really nice if there were a place where us novices could go and talk to someone who would talk in novice to us to help us get up to speed of sorts.

OH Well guess i will just keep struggeling along and see where things take me, via blind luck.

Larry in the boonie of alaska.

have to remimber not all of us are 100% experts.

I do a lot of reversengering and figuring things out on my own but do get lost with some of the lingo, at 1st but learn as I see more.

big question is where are you at on your project? In your words. Trying and asking questions is how everyone learns and if you get an answer over your head, let them/us know.

Since this is appears to be your first/only post, doesn’t look you’ve tried very hard so far to get help with what ever problems you have encountered. You need to clearly state what problem you are having, and what you’ve tried so far to solve it that doesn’t work. The best start is to read any instructions or manuals that came with your order, and read post in the forum that are related to the bot you are constructing.

You are at the right place to learn.

This isn’t really helpful. It would do more good to list the items you do have…

It seems like you feel you are already not going to get the help you need. Am I missing something? As zoomkat mentioned, you haven’t even asked any questions yet.

FYI, The website is pretty clear that we do yet not have PowerPod support for this design. Not sure if this is important to you as I don’t know if you have the Bot Board / processor, or just the SSC-32. Zenta and Xan are the only ones who have made the Phoenix move, so you may want to hit them up for help. Zenta is using a program to generate Visual Sequencer sequences to make the robot move, while Xan is using the Bot Board and Atom Pro to make his bot walk.

It would have been much easier to build the CH3-R as we have complete “hold your hand” support for making it mobile.

 sorry i guess iwas just frustrated. I do believe that i will get help here. i had red several of the various topics and tried to follow what was being said. was mostly lost.

As to where i am on my project i have assembled it per the assembly instructions on the web. I had a little problem with the USB to DB9 cabling but saw in the threds that seemed to be a common thing and a new cable from radio sahck did the trick there. I now can make him stand with the all servo to 1500 command.

now in front of me is this Bot-bord with atompro 28 pluged in hooked it up to the BD9 cable and it clicks at me but cant figure out what to do to see if i’m talking to it, what should i be doing next to get this puppy walking aroound

OH and i have also posted question in the hexapod forum.

I really don’t want to be a pain in the butt type of guy. i Was just feeling way over my head in the other forum sites and thought there might be others like myself who would feel comfortable asking dumb questions in a spot where the rest of the world wouldn’t bother to visit. it was just a thought.

And there he goes rambeliing on again. its an alaskan thing i guess

If I were you I would be asking this guy a lot of questions.

He has basically a Phoenix with the SSC-32, Bot Board II and the Atom Pro 28. He has promised to share his code, and there are many here waiting eagerly for it. Here is his bot in action.
