Torque calculation for motor

I am sizing a motor to lift a telescopic structure. attached is the diagram. I am not sure how to calculate the torque. Should I add at individual sections like i have shown in the pic?
the structures are c-bars. should I cater for dynamic torque? if yes how to calculate the angular velocity?

I will be using gears to lift the structure. what about the gear size calculation?

Indeed you need to factor in all dimensions and weight of each link.

Ideally yes - that would be angular acceleration of the entire assembly. That’s a bit more involved for the calculations.

Once you calculate the torque at the joint, you would divide by the gear ratio (and a loss in efficiency).
