I’m completely new to Lynxmotion’s robots and I just “inherited” a (modified) AL5A Robotic Arm. I think I have all the parts (and more) to reassemble the AL5A to its original state. However as I am working I encountered a screw for which I don’t have a proper screwdriver. To prevent me from going back and forth between my place and the hardwarestore I looked for a list of tools that I would need to reassemle the arm. I couldn’t find a short-list of the items I would require and reading through the assembly guide (lynxmotion.com/images/html/build140.htm) only made my head hurt with the (possibly) different screws and drivers (as I said, I’m new ).
You will need a good quality #2 Phillips head screw driver, and a 3/32" hex key, or driver. I good set of needle nosed pliers would come in handy. That’s really about it…
I live in the Netherlands and when I asked for a #2 Philips most stores come up with a way too large head. It seems a conversion of some sort is in order, but I can’t figure it out by looking on wikipedia or hardware webshops.
My best luck has been to buy a couple of different small screwdriver sets. I bought a set of 4 and/or 6 screwdrivers from our Radioshack, which also have skinny shanks as well. These work most of the time and I can get them into tight places. I also purchased a small screwdriver set(actually a few different ones) I believe from either Home Depot or Loewes, that comes with 1 handle and about 30+ heads. I end up using these most of the time as the handle is easier on the fingers… The one I grabbed this morning is made by Husky…

P.S. - I also have a set from Ace hardware that is like a small ratchet set, that includes some sockets and some screwdrivers, that comes in handy for tight places.
A small bit set marketed for the disassembly and repair of mobile phones is all you need - they are cheap and easily obtained from a local electronics store.
