I want to build a camera on the end of an extending pole. I want the pole to be able to retract into itself when a short height is desired and be able to extend about five feet. I can’t find much literature about building electronically telescoping parts. Does anyone know of any literature on how to do so?
Take a look at how a forklift mechanism works; the basic concept can be reproduced using pulleys. You’ll need segments which slide into each other, and ideally rounds at the ends to prevent fraying. You can opt for a “gravity return” or a spring return. Attached a few images from a quick online search.
