tinyLiDAR ToF Range Finder Sensor Spot Size

Hi All,

I’m thinking of using this sensor to detect small targets - size not decided uet, but I’d like them to be as small as possible.

As I understand it, this will be determined to some extent by the size of the laser spot. Does anyone know what the spot size will be on the trarget at a 2 metre distance?

Thanks in advance,

Gramenor.

Hi,

According to the sensor chips’ datasheet (VL53L0X), the field of view of the sensor is 25 °.

Therefore, at 2 meters, the “spot size” would be quite big, prob. in the range of 90 cm of radius.

Sincerely,

Hello,
Use this formula to compute your spot size: 2 * tan(25/2) * (distance from the obstacle)
in your case it is : 2 * tan(25/2) * (2 m) = 0.88 m
