Tiny Pager Motor Gears

Hi all, just came across this site and it has some great products and looks like this community is pretty helpful, so im hoping someone can help me.

Im looking at purchasing some of the Tiny Pager Motors and putting them into small toy cars, which the eventual aim to build upon this buy adding sensors to react to the environment… but first i need to get them move forward!

Because of the size of the toy cars i intend to mount these into i will need to place the motor at 90 degrees to the wheel bar, therefore I need to convert the motion by 90 to get the car powered. I assume the best way is to use two 45 degree gears?

Can someone please confirm if this is the best method, if not what do you suggest. and also where can I get tiny 45 degree gears that will work with the tiny pager motor?

Many thanks in advance, look forward to discussing more ideas with you all in the future. Oh and happy new year!

Thanks for the quick reply Casmat, much appreciated.

I can only seem to find a pack of gears that contain any 45 degree gears. Do you sell these separately? what is the smallest you do?

Many thanks

Hi TheGrovesy and Welcome to the RobotShop Forum!

You are indeed right, 45 deg bevel gears are a very efficient ways of changing the direction of rotation. Also, a worm gear would achieve the same result (and provide a high gear ratio) but is less efficient and provides a large gear-down.

Also keep in mind that there are geared pager motors available:

]GM15 - 1200RPM Planetary Gear Pager Motor/:m]
Keep us posted on your project, it looks very interesting.

Unfortunately we do not have any such bevel gears. you will either need to custom make them or source them form a specialized manufacturer.
