He announced this in the Shout box:

fritsl: I was just invited to do a TED talk. Not sure, any input from you guys appreciated :)

and I hope I am not being too presumptious by opening a topic so this doesn't get lost in the shout box.

I absolutely think he should do it. Some shouts:

The TED talks motto, "Ideas

The TED talks motto, “Ideas worth spreading”, describes LMR very well. Frits took a simple concept, and founded a community that has spread widely in just a couple of years.

I would be inclined in the talk to focus not just on neat projects (although you should definitely include some), but also on how a group of relative strangers from all over the world have supported and inspired each other. Your commitment to the idea that “all LMR are belong to us” also challenges people to do more than follow, but to contribute and lead.

I really hope you will accept the offer to give this TED talk. Please keep us all informed!

Nice…really good…

Wow man, that´s one cool news. Go and do it man !!, thanks to this forum we can change and share ideas, projects, have more vision (perspective) at the time when we create crazy bots, and put them on the web. I think the success of LMR  are the people that show their projects , don´t care if they are small or too big. But, LMR is one the friendliest websites I´ve ever been. I know that some times we love to share a lot of info, but the work or studies times, gets impossible to write on the forum or to put a nice and cool bot out here. All the cool guys from over the world, like: gareth, oddbot, chris the carpenter, markusB and many, many others , etc, etc…are great inspiration for the young minds. And we never know, maybe the first “terminator” one day could be born on this site. ;) 

I belive that dreams and ideas are part of the intelligence like humans that we are, but with out spreading those small cooperative works; we advanced to the next level, maybe is our hobby, our work, our thesis project, our research or our creative mind that tell us, just make it, break it and build it. Don´t be panic it doesn´t work, we are the only beings that can have very creative ideas / dreams and make them a reality. Come on young people, don´t loose at silly things, you can create a new world in your mind.

Go fritsi, you have changed a lot of people. I send you my best wishes for this great work that you have done in the last years.

OK, I am biased by being a serious Jake fan, but that is the only standing ovation I have seen on a TED viideo.

You have to do it Frits !!! We need more people building more things more often !!! Aside from showcasing the more interesting projects there is the community aspect of it. People here have been very helpful to me and as a result I am willing to help others. This kind of inventors attitude certainly helps to improve the world in my opinion. The variety of people here is also inspiring; we have everything from senior citizens learning how to solder to elementary school kids making their first bots :slight_smile: I wish the rest of the world was as kind, imaginative and dedicate to the pursuit of knowledge as LMR.

Frits, This would be a truely awesome event to go to let alone be a speaker at…it’s all about people changing the world, and you’ve done it with this community of builders of robots and roboty type things.

Erh - I am not quite sure how to save this one - Ye, it is true that I was invited, but this is some local TED thing, I have not really had time to get into it yet, I just saw invitation, 500 people, somewhere in my hood, link to TED, I shouted, like when you shout in the box, you know :slight_smile:

However, it appears to be NOT the real thing, heck, I must read that invitation, but I want to make HexaCopter :smiley:

But please guys, OK, now that Google has this anyway (which is the cool thing about Shoutbox, Google do NOT cache it), OK, thank you for the support… I have a couple of days left to answer / tell what I’d like to talk about, so OK, OK, inputs are appreciated, but sorry for starting a fuzz, I am NOT invited outside my own area, this is just a smaller event :slight_smile:

And I am still considering, it’s not like I have an urge to just talk in front of a lot of people and stuff :wink: Content first, so inputs on that are welcome.

Damn, now I hope I can still focus to solder that HexaCoppa! :smiley:

I should apologize, maybe…

I was afraid you would lose all that input in the shout box. Even if it is local, it will be taped, right? And then it is on the net with tags that say it is a TED talk about robotics. And then it it gets a bajillion hits and youe headline the next big TED, right?

Well…

OK, I was selected after some talks, and I had a first meeting, and was shaping my talk, to be held in a month from now… And now I was just told that unfortunatly a major sponsor have had to withdraw, putting the show on ice so far ;/
