Bought the DFRobotShop Rover V2 like six months, and I finally got around to finishing the hardware the way I wanted to. There’s still some software work to finish up.
I’m actually powering this with a 18.5V laptop charger, running it through a very long cable, and then regulating it back down to 5V with DFR’s Power Module. Originally, the Power Module was tacked on top of the expansion plate, but I had the brilliant thought to mount it upside down, underneath the plate. There’s only a couple millimeters of clearance, but it fits pretty well, and the Power Module is remarkably cool. Very little perceptible heat coming off it.
It has an ultrasonic rangefinder, SRF05, and a temperature and humidity sensor, a DHT11. I found an RS485 serial module that fits in the Xbee socket, and the camera was the only camera with built-in infrared I could find that ran on 5V. It’s found on Adafruit. The cable is a security camera cable designed for PTZ cameras, so it has a BNC video, RS485 serial, and 2.1mm power cable all in one.
