Stretch sensors

hi!

im new to the site. i was looking at the sensors section when i stumbled upon stretch and bend/flex sensors listed in the store. i might have some application for such stretch sensors in a project that i am doing currently.

an example of my application would be in capturing the motion of the elbow joint (contraction and relaxation of bicep). would such motion capture/encoding be the appropriate application for such sensors (say by mounting it across the tricep->elbow->outside of forearm perhaps).

also has anyone worked with these sensors before? i would like to know the linearity, endurance & expected life (in terms of no of times it can be stretched), difficulty in calibration, temperature etc errors, etc.

thanks!

Hi silenced,

Welcome to the RobotShop website. Stretch and bend sensors are fairly new types of sensors (very few companies offer them) and are still undergoing beta testing. To get motion feedback, we encourage you to try a variety of them as their cost is minimal. We have played with them for motion capture and they have proved fairly reliable, though we never counted repetitions or the effect of different temperatures. The sensors are prone to failure through overuse, excessive force or sharp bends. However, for your application, they may be a very good choice. Unfortunately additional data is not yet available.
