Strange behavior

ok im setting up the SSC and ABB2 for a robot. im using the T-hex code and have followed the tutorials.
The problem im facing is the servos are not powering up.

let me explain.

ok first when i started putting it all together the ABB led never came on the Regulator was getting very hot. i inspected it by slightly moving it to see if any of the connections had broke underneath. all looked ok.
after this i powered it up again and the led came on.! strange. could there be a connection prob? also the regulator doesn’t seem to be getting hot anymore.

so…

if i just connect the SSC up to power (without the ABB) the legs power up and go to the position saved (offsets) done in the earlier stages of the tutorial.
when i connect up the ABB and apply power the SSC flashes, the ABB led stays on steady and beeps as expected to the input from the PS2 controller. (the code is working fine)
but the legs dont respond.

obviously i have sufficient power as this has been checked over and over plus im getting the legs to work when only the SSC is connected.

shall i try and order another botboard or does anyone have a fix for something like this?!

Some things to check might include:

a) Is the T-Hex code configured for binary output and if so have you updated the firmware on the SSC-32 for the binary version?

b) the normal things like power, common ground and the like, correct baud rates…

Kurt

hi kurt.
well i have used 2.04GP Beta firmware as instructed and also the baud rate is set to 115.2k.
would it be worth using 2-05EGP_A4.abl Extended Binary General Purpose Sequencer.
if so this will need to be changed on the tutorial. :unamused:

That is the one I would try… As it mentions Binary mode…

Else go into the config file and comment out the line:

BinaryMode con 1 ;Comment this line if you don't want to use the SSC32 binary mode

yes this did confuse me. i knew the T-hex code as combined binary code so when the tutorial said 2.04GP i was a bit confused, but trusted what i was seeing. :unamused:

thanks i will give it a try.

As for the heating up regulator… Are you using metal standoffs to mount the cards? If so make sure you use nylon washers, and or hardware to prevent the ground and power plane from shorting out.

hi jim. all nylon standoffs round here.
its working fine now. not found out why it was heating up but its not doing it now.
