Storm Jr Tracked Vehicle

I am working on a new robot based on the Lynx tracks for outdoor use.

Robot is approximately 20"x13.5"x7". Totally enclosed electronics bay, which can be sealed from things like rain and dust.

Robot does not have the top plate shown, as it covers everything that is exposed.

Here are some design pictures:

I will be building this shortly, as soon as I get quotes back from the laser cutters.

Hi Sienna,

Ones again, your design looks awesome. Looking forward to see it comming together.

Now, just add a gun and you got a LynxTank

Um, thanks Zenta!

And the plan is to try it out with a M203 BB shower on top first…

Hehe, kinda reminds me of my own design for an outdoor rover  I like it.

Hopefully you can get everything done on yours. Had to stop mine cause of $$ reasons D:

Summary for try 1:
Lynx’s track system is awesome, of course!
RS 385 motors do not provide enough torque to steer on carpet at the 16:1 gear ratio.
Blowing up a motor stinks! (both literally and emotionally :stuck_out_tongue:)

:open_mouth: Thats big!
I liked the high ground clearance.
I bet these tracks make alot of friction and adding more weight would also demand much more torque. No wonder your motor smoked.

Better luck next time with larger motors
Smart ting using the fan to get rid of the smoke!

BTW, is there any reason for why you choosed using clear(transparent) plastic?
