Stepper motor

I have a Taig lathe and I modify it to add 2 lead screw. I would like to add some kind of stepper motor and manual control, Fwd-Rev-Neutral-low speed high speed.
I am new to to the Arduino stuff but I would like to know what starter kit to buy in order to learn that kind of process. Ideally Stepper motor but it can be other type.
Thanks.

If you’re going to all the trouble to add stepper motors, why not use a PC to control it, and run CNC?

Look at the Sherline for inspiration.

Because I really don’t know what I am talking about. I am trying to understand the technology. I don’t know if I will use a Stepper or a servo or just a cc. That Is why I ask about the starter kit. Anyway I have bought one with French instructions. At least it a start.

I look at the Sherline parts offered here and it is sure that I will look at them after reading ans practicing with the kit.
Thanks.

CNC starter kit: robotshop.com/en/sherline-cn … hines.html
Includes the stepper motors, controller, cables and power supply. You would use LinuxCNC software.
Manual control would require purchasing a hub to attach to the rear shaft of the motor and creating a hand wheel.
We can also see if Sherline offers their manual wheels separately as special order.
