Stepmotor switching off automatically

Hello,
I would like to operate a stepper motor (0.6A) with the driver DM542T. A linear unit is controlled, with which a flap is closed. This can lead to pinching of fingers (risk of crushing). In this case, I would like it to be switched off automatically. Unfortunately, the driver does not switch off automatically. Do you have an idea to handle this? Many thanks for your help.

Mathias

@Mattes966 Welcome to the RobotShop Community. The stepper controller you have does not have any current feedback nor any programmed features to react to external sensor input. As such, it’s pretty much a “dumb” device which sends signals to the stepper motor without knowing what is actually happening. Don’t have any ideas or suggestions unfortunately.

If you changed technology entirely, a smart servo like the following has exactly what you need:

These smart servos read the current (which relates to the torque applied) and if a certain value is reached, you can have the servo hold the current position (ie don’t try to keep rotating) or go limp (ie lose power).
