SSC-32U USB Servo Controller stopped working

Mine stopped working. Everything was working fine . Power to the controller and servos is there it just stopped, I’ve tried different servos but but nothing . Flowbotics finds it, everything is powered but it just stopped. I pulled it out, double checked the wiring, looked for any burns or short circuits , reseated everything looks fine, If I replug in the servos they surge when they get power but function like there is no power to them after that. Help ! I am at the very end of this build and I am stuck.
Ok, I’ve run a servo test with a tester and the servos and speed control run perfectly. No problems, no errors. Im totally confused. It was all running so perfectly. What happened to the board ? The speed control will self power through the motor power if the on switch is thrown but it drops that to 5v anyway. I gotta solve this :frowning:

This is how it was wired

It was wire to VL only because I was running the servos at 5V and did not want it to dip below 5.5v so I wired an additional adapter at 5.5 but low amps

The controller was functioning perfectly to that point.

At one answer every 24 hours this is not going well. Should I just buy another and then send this back to you ? Not happy.

With the extra powerline removed.

For the VL input, as indicated on page 15 of the SSC-32U manual, you should usually provide at least 6 V DC: lynxmotion.com/images/data/lynxmotion_ssc-32u_usb_user_guide.pdf#page=15
The absolute minimum (based on the on-board regulator) is 5.3 V DC, but this may not work in all cases.

With the SSC-32U powered and no servomotor connected to it, could you please connect to it using Lynxterm and see if you get a response to the “VER” command?

Yes .That was why I added 5,5 to the VL the 5V the servos were running at was below 5.3

lynxterm responded after VER with SSC32-V2,50USB

Also Im in California so yours hours are actually 6am till 1 o’clock my time.

You mentioned in one of your messages that you for the board to respond in Lynxterm. The response “SSC32-V2,50USB” is the proper one, which means your SSC-32U is able to power-up (the microcontroller) and use its USB interface properly.

The next test will require to you to be in the same setup that you had the SSC-32U in when it responded.

With power off, connect one servomotor to channel 0. Power-up the SSC-32U and connect it by USB. Start Lynxterm and connect to the board. Then, use the control on the right to attempt moving >the servomotor on channel 0. Please let us know if this works. If it does not, please give us as many details as you can about what seems to have gone wrong.

This came in an hour ago at 12:17 (your 3:17) and now you are closed. (1:00 my time being your 4:00 closing time my time zone) I won’t hear from you till monday and that is utterly maddening. Sorry but it is.

Rather than once a day giving me ONE thing to check give me your check list with variations for different or no responses from Lynx term. I’m forced to buy a second controller now because this is going so slowly. Not happy. Continue on lets go the list.

Response was the same in Lynx term after VER with SSC32-V2.50USB, no response from the slider. Something in the power line has gone or dropped out. The servos are no longer under power when connected though they will surge if connected or disconnected when the board is powered. When or flowbotics is running the board is connected it is read , connected but it can’t control the servos. A capacitor or some line connected short, I don’t know.

With 14 servomotors, we recommend that you split them over the two sides, VS1 and VS2 and provide an appropriate power supply on each. With two power supplies, make sure the VS1=VS2 >jumpers are removed.
As for limits, we did not perform absolute rating tests, but the VS1 & VS2 inputs should be able to handle roughly 12-15 A and each servomotor channel should be able to provide about 3 A (these ?>were not tested as continuous currents, only momentary). Concerning your first SSC-32U, someone from our exchanges’ department will be contacting you shortly.

Ok let me see if I have this clear

I need two separate power sources for each servo bank. Let me paint a couple scenarios

  1. First I need to know if there was something wrong with my first configuration. The reason is I want to make sure that this is not an issue I’ve created. I dont want to have a second board go.
    VL1_ 5v 10 amps
    VL _5.5V .800 amps
    jumpers in place
    Was that ok ?

This is what I am considering doing.
VL1_ 6v 10 amp
VL2_ 6v 10 amp
I remove the jumpers
VL does not need a separate source or does it?

Oh and its both jumpers removed ?
