humm… well… i was hoping for atleast an answer from the lynxmotion crew about the subject!?
got my first servo controller almost 1 year ago and ive choosen the SSC32 because i had read that the board was open source…
then quickly found out that the source wasnt available anymore… which was pretty sad.
but its been annonced that the ssc32 is or will possibly going back open source?..
here the quote and date

that as been annonced like 4 months ago… and then… nothing
so what happended to that intention to reinstate the open source status?
im waiting for the source code to be avaiable before buying a second SSC-32 for the sole purpose of working on the firmware
The Lynxmotion crew have been on vacation, they are back today…

We used to distribute the original version of the SSC-32 firmware for the Mega 8 processor as open source. The goal was to allow people to make flavors of the firmware, and to share them, but there was a stipulation that we would be the sole source for distribution. We never received a single file submission. Some underhanded persons in China copied the board and code. We removed the firmware source from the website. There are code dumps available on the internet if you look hard enough, but there is no source code available for the V2 mega 168 version that we have been selling for a few years now. That version of the code was never released as open source.
We are hard at work on many new kits, assemblies, and controllers, and I just can not dedicate the time involved to repost files that most people will not be able to use anyway. We will post the original source code, but I am not in any hurry to do so.
People read open source and assigned their own meaning to the term. They ignored our stipulations and as I said we received no submissions of alternate code the entire time it was open source. I hope you can understand the sticky situation here…
Thanks for the reply Robot Dude, this is really appreciated.
well… i was not aware of that situation about the chiness copies,
thats rough :S
i understand ur point of view now and why you are not so in hurry to post the code
what i was hoping for was an eazy access to the code and informations as i have no experience with hardware firmware programmation, i dont even know what software i would need to work on such code…
oh well… i guess im on my own for the firmware then.
The firmware is extremely complex. It’s to the level of counting machine cycles to ensure there is no jitter in the outputs. This is not for the beginner at all. It would be a challenge for the most advanced programmer. Sorry…
Definitely a challenge! Not recommended for other then experienced imbedded programmers.
Very tough timing through and around interrupts. Difficult to follow even with conversations with the author.
Better to learn the hardware and software first. Try a BB II and Basic.

yea, i had pretty much figured that the code would be complex and not for beginer.
but im far to be a beginer when it come to programmation, ive just never worked on a firmware.
whats a BB II? (Bot Board II i would guess as ive seen that name all over the place on the forum)
