Some beginers questions: CH3-R modification

Hello!

I am new here and I am realy intrested in robots, I have not already a robot but i am saving for buying the CH3-R kit…

So I have some questions =)

-Is a CH3-R cool for a beginer? I mean, can I learn on it or will I just have hard times? For the moment i have just some basic electronic knowledge and alot in programming (I know language like Java, C, C++,
and i am curently learning Cuda (awesome with a gtx 8800!) and assembly (not as hard as what i expected ^^).

-I am thinking of some modifications for the CH3-R, would it be easy to add a leg’s segment and make it work well with gait? Would it prevent
it from moving fast or will it make him move faster? Would I have to
take some stronger servo for it?
I think adding a leg’s segement would be awesome, it would help it
climb staires and make him move totaly differently!

-What can I use to do simulations of CH3-R and the modified version?

-Maybe it is a stupid question but why are Basic atom and basic atom pro the same price Oo ? And could I buy the CH3-R with the pro version instead of normal Basic Atom?

Thanks for reading my stupid questions ^^

Hello dark-san,

The CH3-R is great beginner platform. We provide a very detailed assembly guide and tutorial for programming. For an experienced programmer it should not present any problems.

I am unable to comment on the modifications you are describing. I’m not sure what you’re trying to do. :stuck_out_tongue: If you really want to add a DOF to the legs you will need to get the best performing servos available.

Here is a CH3-R simulation on the forum somewhere.lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?t=2766

The CH3-R uses PowerPod and it is now certified to work with the Pro. You can order and put in the comments you want the pro. We can swap it out for you. We will have the product changed to the Pro soon.

The reason the Atom and the Pro are both available is the modules can be programmed with assembly code. Some people will want the Atom because of it’s underlying PIC chip, and some will want the Pro for it’s Renesas processor. Both have different hardware inside the chip…

Okay, thanks for the answers
I am realy looking forward to have enougth money
