Small roomba help

Apparently heat has melted/disfigured parts of my Roomba (4000 series). The small square peg on the end of the beater has deformed and no longer fits into the white plastic piece that turns it. No big deal, I can buy a new beater easily enough.

The problem is that the large white piece that the brush attaches to has also been deformed. The brush is fine, but the white plastic piece, which originally has a square in the middle of it, and is turned by the motor/gear set up, I assume? has also deformed. Now its some kinda weird circle hole, so the brush doesn’t fit into it.

I want to replace this part but I have no idea what it is, I am not exactly the most mechanically inclined fellow. Is it part of the gear assembly? Do I need to buy an entire new set of gears? Im not really sure where to start…

I have attached a photo to show what I am talking about in case it was vastly confusing to you as well.

Hi fishbulb.

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum!

Thanks for the picture. We do see melted gears like that from time to time. Not to worry though, this is something that can be fixed as long as you don’t mind disassembling your robot. You would need to purchase a new set of gears for your Roomba, and then follow the main brush casing repair guide we’ve put up on the Ultimate Roomba Resource Center. It doesn’t show exactly how to replace the casing gears, but it does show you how to get access to your casing. You would just need to undo the five screws on the right side of the casing and remove the cover to get access to your gears. Check it out and let us know if you have any questions.

This melted gear problem is usually caused by putting the brushes in backwards. This can happen when the brush bearing is missing. When you go to replace your brush, please make sure you have a bearing (yellow spinner) on the tip of each brush. If not, we advise you get a new pair of bearings. Otherwise a new set of brushes will come with the bearings also.

Thanks,
