I am pretty new to robotics and an trying to find the size of a motor I would need to have a robot capable of carrying upwards of 40-50 lbs and move at a rough walking speed. I a, looking to have a motor for each of the four tires and I am wondering what size of motor would be best for this application, and if I should get a gear reduction drive.
Hi,
First, we recommend that you check this blog series: How to Make a Robot. It covers most of the basics of robotics and should help you get a grasp on what is required.
Then, you may want to have a look at these:

We hope this helps getting you started!
Once you have your motor requirements figured out, check here for DC motors that match your requirements. You will most likely want to use DC motors with gearboxes. You can find those here.
You will also need one or more motor controller (depending on what you choose for wheels and control scheme). These are found here for DC motors.
Sincerely,
