Single-row 0.10" header shells

Hi Jim,

Is it possible to offer breakaway single-row 0.1 pitch header posts and the black connectors/female pins as depicted in this picture:

Breakaway header posts and the connectors are allways usefull for prototyping, and I think you need to solder in 2 posts and add a jumper to put the scorpion motor controller into tank steering mode (just read through the scorpion guide, i guess you can solder a solid, insulated jumper between the holes…).

In addition, do you think you could post program code for using the QME motor controller, possibly for the basic atom, or point to some resources? I’m sure I can google it up but having a straight link is cool too.

Thanks for all the hard work, been going strong since at least 1997

I’ll second a vote for single-row 0.10" header shells.
In the past, I have ordered these from various sources, in configurations for many more circuits than I expect to use (10- or 15-circuit header shells - whatever they’ve got for a good price), and cut them to fit my purposes. Trimming takes only a hobby knife, and it’s easy to cut them as long as you’re willing to sacrifice one position in the process. The cut-down plugs don’t always have a “pin 1” mark on them, but color-coding the wires does that job well enough.
Having shrink-wrapped crimp connectors for 0.10" header posts is one thing, but it’s really nice to be able to gang them into plugs, rather than have to connect and disconnect a half-dozen individual plugs, worrying about getting them in the right order, etc.

I have never seen break away .1 recepticals, My guess is, Jim would need to have custom manufatured recepticals designed to break at the desired number of pins.

I think Mike and Seamus are both referring to the same thing, just using different terminology. I have also cut back longer shells to the size I needed. It’s not terribly difficult. I will try to get these on the site. I have been working on so many bigger projects, and am making some progress, that sometimes the little things can go un noticed. I will see if I can get it done.

This is the sort of thing I was referring to:

They aren’t exactly the same sort of female connectors offered with the crimper kit, but they’re what were available at the time, and they work with standard 0.10" header pins.

Start with a larger female header connector than is needed, chop it apart by going through an unneeded position on the strip with a hobby knife, then trim down the edge you just cut. Crimp, solder, and snap in the contacts, and you’re good to go.

Wile were on the subject, anyone out there know where I can source a half way decent crimper? The only one I have ever been able to find for a reasonable price is the cheap ones we sell. I have one I payed $75.00 for and it works great. But that was 20 years ago and I can’t find them anymore. I’ve heard you can find them for $200.00, but that’s way too much, and I haven’t even been able to find them… :frowning:

I totally spaced the other question. Ok, i have no idea what a QME motor controller is. Um, i’m gonna rename this post for the header thing, and you can post about the motor controller separately.
