I am interested in developing a visual simulation software for the BRAT or any other servo based robot. How would one go about creating such a thing?
Here are some links for you to read. Don’t forget the great google…

I am relativly new to programming, but I am very interested in learning Java and I think it would be great to have a 3D simulation software for the BRAT. Until then I’m off to study IK. XD
Microsoft is already ahead of you. Gates made a huge push within MS for something that does exactly what you’re talking about for robotics. Maybe you’re already aware of it and just prefer not to use MS products, but for anyone who’s curious, check out the Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio. It’s really quite impressive. And it’s FREE for personal or academic use.
(sorry, tried to include a link, but I’m too new here)
It allows you to import a 3D model of your system and use it for virtual experimentation with your control system, as well as running the real world system, all from the same software.
You can also try Player-Stage-Gazebo, if you don’t like Microsoft.
(again, tried to include a link - but you can google to find it)
