Short Video of our Track System

We will have several kits ranging in size and design, but I’m simply makeing the components available in the meantime. There are lots and lots of ways to make idlers. You don’t need to have custom laser cut panels. Sure it’s a real do-it-yourselfer project, but there will probably be as many ways to do this as there are people who decide to do it.

When you say it’ll be ready next week, do you mean just the tracks and cogs, or will a chassis kit be available too?

Where did you read that they will be ready next week?

it was on the first page of the post

Go get um…

Already ordered 6 sets of drive sprockets, 6 sets of hubs (couple days ago) and three sets of tracks. A few weeks from now, if satisfied after playing and testing, the remainder will be ordered. Thank you Jim. You are a man of your word

my report (a.k.a. opinion) will follow

chris

Got some tracks, sprockets, and hubs coming! Hope I ordered the right electronics

Jim- I placed my order on Wednesday. How long do you think it would take to get to me? I’m probably a little North of you, in the SW suburbs of Chicago.

i cant do it :frowning:

Um… If your Jerry, then all I know is the package left here. All of the people who can look this stuff up have already left, and the machines are already off… Downstate to Chicago area is usually one day. So it’s probably on your front porch. Thanks we do appreciate your business!

Nope I’m another Jim :stuck_out_tongue:

I spoke too soon. Everything arrived about 8:30 last night! The tracks are awesome! There was one error with the order, but I’ll be calling later on today. One thing got switched for another…

Here is the next revision of the prototype. I tweeked the positioning of the hex standoffs a bit, and added the nylon tubes. It does make the assembly much more effecient. It’s going to stay.

Real nice Jim

For the SES I’m thinking something like the existing hexapod chasis designs (not the round ones), with CR modded servos on the back pair and idler wheels on the middle and front. Whaddya think guys, plausable?

I’ve got a few feet of these tracks and they are excellent. With that said, I have reservations about using only (2) 57 oz-in CR servos as the drive for these tracks. Im thinking the CR servo will not get you the power needed to skid steer these tracks on any platform weighing more than a few pounds or on any surface other than smooth. My opinion is not based on empirical measurement at this time but I can say that the model shown and prototyped uses four gearhead motors (which are probably 100 oz-in or more each)
Maybe Jim can chime in on this one for you. I’m thinking, “go gearhead motor or go home.”

Chris

I wasnt planning on using the 57 oz-in servos, was actually thinking up towards the higher end for power and doing the CR mods myself. What I’m really wondering here is if the tracks would line up lengthwise with the spacing on the SES so everything meshes.

Speaking of the gearheads though, whats the chances of seeing a mounting bracket for the SES to put the gearhead output shaft at roughly the same place a servo would be? The power of the gearheads with the design flexibility of the SES… MUWAHAHAHAHAH … er, sorry, mad scientist moment. I’m sure you all understand :smiling_imp:
