Pardon me for being dense but, what gauge is the wire on standard hitec servos? Thanks!
M
I can’t speak for all of them, but I’ve got one here at 28 braided
Looks like mine are #22 - I don’t really know how to judge wire gauge (I guess maybe hardcore EE types can or something ) but my wire stripper tells me that’s what it is.
Anybody else have any idea?
Also, anybody know how to remove female crimp pins from the black connector housings? (I’d like the housings to remain useable, of course )
Thanks!
M
again, I can speak only for the ones I have here. There may be a special tool, but I’ve used a watch screwdriver to lift the black plastic tab of each pin just below where the metal crimp shows through the housing. When that’s lifted just a bit, the pin can slide out. You may have to peel the 3 wires apart just a bit so that you can slide them partially out one at a time.
Thanks for the tips, guys. Got 'em out. Funny, but I couldn’t get any three-slot housings from Jameco so I have to recycle the ones I have I was hoping they weren’t just ‘disposable’.
BTW, Jim, any comment on the wire gauge for servos? I assume any cabling that connects to them would want to be the same gauge/type, right?
M
Yea, servo extenders should probably have the same gauge as the servo. I don’t think it’s a big deal though as the wire runs are pretty short and any loss is probably neglegible. Unfortunately I can’t put my hands on the wire specs right now. Sorry…
Hey, thanks for the reply - no problems anyway as I managed to figure out what gauge and get some spools to match.
One big help, however, would be if someone knew of a reasonably priced supplier of male-gender connectors to match 3-position servo plugs. I can find 3-position female plugs/crimp pins and matching headers (i.e. PC board mount) all day long - I just can’t find any male housings (like the ones on extender cables). Looked at Jameco, Digikey, etc.
Anyone know where to get them? Thanks!
M
Ah ha! I found it.
Micro servos = 32 AWG
Standard servos = 26 AWG
Heavy Duty servos = 22 AWG
if you cant find servo connecters check out www.towerhobbies.com RC stuff and robot stuff usually go hand in hand.
Servo city’s got a bunch, too.
I’ll shop around a bit, and report back who sells them at the best price.
I’ve decided that I’m going to be replacing my servo’s leads with custom-fit wire bundles, as well.
I didn’t want to do this, until now, because I was afraid that I’d have to move things around and not be able to, once I cut the wire to a certain length.
Now, though, I’ve got everything mapped out, and any future changes that I’ll be making won’t be effecting any of the servo wire lengths.
Plus…
My black-painted wires are fading and looking like poop.
And they’re a bit sticky, too.
Oooh.
I forgot that you’ve got CK-01, Jim.
Those wouldn’t happen to fit the short-fingered HS-5645MG’s plug housings, eh?
