I’m looking for a servo motor and drive. The motor should be small-ish - industrial strength or high torque not necessary, I’m basically turning a hamster wheel. I want to provide a voltage signal to the drive to dictate the position of the motor shaft at certain times, and then intermittently I need to toggle the motor to torque mode and apply zero current so the motor shaft spins freely.
Can you point me towards a good motor/driver pair?
Normal RC servos rotate 180 degrees based on RC input. Continuous rotation RC servos can rotate continuously based on RC input, but you cannot assign a position.
Most smart servos allow for continuous rotation, and positioning (normally ~300 degrees), but require serial input. You can get a torque reading.
A DC gear motor with encoder will provide relative as opposed to absolute position and needs a microcontroller.
