Servo making high pitch buzz?

hi,

I just put together the AL5D arm and made it up to steps 23-25 with the testing of Lynx Term but I’m getting a really loud high pitch humm/buzz from my elbow servo(HS-5745MG)?

Not sure what to do so I’ll leave it unplugged for now. :unamused: any help will be appreciated.

thanks

I am not sure from your description if this is an unusual sound or if it is the the standard semi obnoxious sound of digital servos. I have an AL5d on my Rover and these servos are loud. The question is, are you also getting a similar sound from the other HS-5745MG servo?

Kurt

Digital servos are not silent. They do make noise when they are doing work (holding a position under load.) This is normal.

thanks for the info people, the sound is beyond “semi obnoxious” but I can learn to see past this I guess, it’s actually not as bad now that I found the music player in RIOS!!

Anyways since were on the subject of holding positions under load I need to know a few things, they may be better suited for the RIOS section, not too sure? I also didn’t want to clutter up too much space, but I will move them if needed.

1~ is the picture for Robot Dudes avatar the “proper” way to leave your arm when it’s powered off? I’m just curious to know the best way without having any stress when not in use, as of right now I’m letting the wrist servo rest on top of a box.

2~ this kinda pertains to the first question. Is there a way to go to a “home position” after/when your done using RIOS? what I’m doing right now is manually using the SSC-32 controls.

thanks!

edit: nevermind, I figured out to go to the home position, but can you please verify what the “safest” position is, as of now I’m using the default which I’m assuming is the easiest on the servos?

I know others can answer this better than I can, but… For #1, no I don’t think Robot Dudes Avatar is the best powered off position. I can not imagine it would stay there without power. I use one that is close to this image:

I am not a RIOS person, so can not answer #2. My arm is on the rover and controlled by Basic Atom Pro code…

Kurt

I believe that’s how it is except my elbow is a little higher due to the RIOS set-up.

cheers!

Do you have any helper springs on the arm? This might help lower the noise you hear. Also, can you post a Youtube video of the arm while it makes this noise?
