SEQ Sequencer just closes

Good Evening…

I am working a a Johnny 5 project, with on-board computer. I had it all up and running on the sequencer. Even had some routines programmed and roaming the house via Remote Desktop. Then I caught a “virus”, So I have been told… I got the Borland Error 1310 (Bantam.dll). To fix that I renamed “Borland” Folder to “Borland (Old)” then copied a folder from my other computer. I ran a registry mechanic and it didn’t fix it either. Renaming it worked out for me. I am unable to access the old folder or delete it. Hmm… So now I got the SEQ to reinstall I can access everything in the program except; Project and Sequencer. The program begins to open a window, freezes, then closes…??? I tried a reinstall and even renamed the SEQ Folder to start completely fresh new install. The program still closes when those two buttons are pushed. Please help me get J5 all better, My Aunt’s dog really misses him running around the house.

From the sound of it you have a PC health issue. I would love to be more helpful, but I’m no PC guru. The program uses the dot net framework. If it was updated it could crash the program. Normally it’s a matter of uninstall then reinstall…

I have completely formatted this computer and reinstalled all software. The problem still exists…I have no idea what else to do. I installed SEQ first before other software to ensure it wasn’t a conflict with other software.

I will email Laurent to see if he has any ideas as far as troubleshooting goes. I have no idea what it could be.

Hi there,
Could you try to download the BDE here : info.borland.com/devsupport/bde/files/bde510en.exe ?
save it on your PC desktop and run the bde510en.exe file to install BDE
then try to run SEQ
if it’s not working, uninstall SEQ and install it again

Laurent

Borland update installed.

Program still closes when Sequencer or Project buttons are utilized.

I unistalled SEQ software from control panel -Add and Remove Software.
Then installed SEQ software again.

Again Program closes with the use of 2 buttons.

What ever this is seems pretty stubborn to have lasted through all this.

Hum weird !

so, it was working fine in the past on this computer ?
then a virus, and SEQ was crashing ?
Could you confirm this ?

You said you formated the PC then reinstall all ?
in my opinion it should have returned to previous state…working i mean.
i’m a bit lost on this :

  • did you reinstall WIndows and softwares only ?
    OR
  • did you “formate the HD” then reinstall Windows and softwares ?

Do you know the name/kind of the Virus ?
Do you use an antivirus ? which one please ?

Then could you tell me :

  • what WIndows version do you use ?
  • SEQ Version ?
  • and Error #, i can’t find error 1310 in BDE and bantam.dll

Then please confirm that you are installing SEQ from the Lynxmotion CD,
NOT the “update version” in zip file from the website

SEQ need to be installed from the CD then updated (if needed) from the zip file.
It won’t work with an installation from the zip file ONLY.

When I attached the Pico ITX, it had Windows XP Home was installed. I installed SEQ and RoboRealm, both where up and running. I was able to log on remotely and navigate him throughout the house. I was making a video of my progress when I noticed hard drive making a lot of noise, computer was freezing and being sluggish. It was late so I shut down and called it a night.

I booted up J5 the next day, when I launched SEQ, a window appeared doing and install.(No disk in drive.) I let it continue, an error appeared, error 1310 unable to copy file …/common files/borland/bantam.dll . When I tried to skip, more errors continued to appear of other files not being copied.

I attempted many uninstalls and re-installs of SEQ; same error occurs each time. I talked to a tech from the IT department at my school and they said, “It sounds like you got a virus.” They also told me to search the internet for these files it was asking for. I didn’t like the sources I seen giving out the software. I thought it might work to update to Windows XP Pro (I have a copy). I installed Spyware Doctor w/ Anti-Virus and also Registry Mechanic from PCTools. No change in error condition. I then decided to use my other computer (laptop), copied the borland folder and put it in place of the old folder on J5’s computer.

Then launched SEQ, now it does begin and I can use everything except, Sequencer and Project buttons on the GUI. When buttons are used the SEQ program opens new window momentarily, freezes, and closes all. I attempted to uninstall and reinstall and no more error, just closing when buttons used.

After this I Formatted the Hard Drive, re-installed Windows XP Home, Upgraded to XP Pro, Then I installed Spyware Doctor w/ Anti-virus, and USB wifi adapter. Then I installed SEQ and launched program. The program launched as it should but still closes when 2 buttons pushed.

Then I have followed the instructions given here on the forums.

I do not know the name of the virus. I am not totally certain it was a virus. The man at the IT department said that sounds like what happen. I had no virus protection on the computer at the time of initial error. I do currently have virus protection and registry mechanic from Spyware Doctor/PCTools on J5’s computer.

J5’s System currently runs Windows XP Pro sp 3, SEQ Version 1.16 Disc,
The error I received was 1310 unable to copy file …/common programs/borland shared/BDE/bantam.dll some thing about not having access to file.

I am using Disc purchased from Lynxmotion Visual SEQ ver. 1.16.

I hope this helps.

Gaaa! this is terrible. :frowning: I’m no PC guru, but it sounds a lot like hardware. I doubt you have a second pico-itx mb to test out though. :frowning: For now it may look like SEQ, but you may want to try other applications to see if anything will run on it. Be sure to try an application that deals with a database, or the dot net framework.

Just to check,

the error message “unable to copy…bantam.ll” occurs eveytime when you install SEQ on the J5 ?
or only one time before you formated the PC and no more after this ?

did you test to install on another PC ?
does this message pop up ?

if this message is poping up during SEQ installation, maybe the CD is damaged just on this bantam.dll file, dunno.

When you formated the PC, was SEQ on the C:/ partition ?
i mean if you formated C:/ and SEQ was on E:/ for example, it was not helping to clean the BDE install.

I’m using too a XP Pro SP3, with latest Dot Net updates, no troubles.

the weird thing is that it was working, then not.
are you doing something else than installing ?
like copying manualy your saved database files (MovesSeq.dbf and MovesSeq.MDX) to the fresh new installed SEQ directory ?
if so, maybe these files are corrupted.

The error only comes up during install. When it does the install cannot complete.

-This problem has been fixed by replacing the files from another computer of mine. Since I have not encountered that problem again.

-I have installed it on my laptop. The program install worked fine. I installed on a desktop and used the software with no issues.

-I have had no issues with the condition of cd. Installs good on everything now.

-When I did the format I did format the entire hard drive. All partitions where formatted.

  • I am not manually coping any files over, such as sequence files or moves files. Start fresh each time. I am totally with you on how it is weird it did work and now it doesn’t. What surprises me most is not throwing some kind of error.

I completed a new install of everything on new hard-drive with some success. Was working great at first. Virus protection and all on it prior to install of SEQ. Working a couple times. Then after reboot problem came back. Then I fiddled with something else for a few. When I go back to SEQ it worked again… At the moment it is non functioning. So now it is an intermittent problem, which I see as progress. I have not been able to narrow down what is different between the times it runs and the times it does not. I run the software with minimal background programs and no other programs running.

Thank you guys for your help. I appreciated you guys taking the time to scratch your brain about my issue.

I have noticed another sign of the error, I think…When SEQ starts, under normal condition, users is asked to select project. When the SEQ does not work, user is not prompted to select project. I thought this might help to identify what may not be executing properly.

I have a second Pico ITX ordered, should be here in a couple days. I don’t believe this is the problem, I thought may be good to have as a back-up or testing…

Installed on my new desktop computer. (HP running windows 7, 2.6 ghz, 4 gig ram, ) Same problem appears!..Could it be the firmware on the chip causing all this? I can’t see the problem following through 2 complete system restores, and install on a different system.

Firmware cause, not likely. Can we set up a download of the SEQ program for you? Just to make sure there are no issues with the files you are installing.

Send an email to [email protected] to get the download set up.

Was that a Windoz 7 Pro?

I have a new laptop that I intend to load SEQ on. I can report my results, if interested.

My biggest problem is loading my CAD/CAM program. There is an “admin” mode (at least on Pro), and compatibility modes that can be selected with a right click.

More later if I find anything interesting.

I removed the previous version, as well as deleting old file folder with misc files still remaining in it. I downloaded the file, then extracted the files using winzip. Install seemed to go normally.

Problem still exists. Still closes without error.
