Are there any known issues using SEQ-32 with Vista? Am a newbie with this software, but all it does for me is hang up (Not Reponding) after attempting to start the SSC-32 page.
I am a little frustrated. I checked out my SSC-32 using the manual commands on LynxTerm and the servos respond as expected, but the Sequencer so far has been useless to me!
Is this a Vista problem? Has anyone had success using this app on Vista?
In the short time I was running Vista, before I gave up on it and installed XP on this machine, anything that had to do with accessing comm ports was very much hit-or-miss for me. Some things were allowed to use them, others were not, and some were on-and-off, on what appeared to be a random basis (though that may have been a question of other system adjustments I was doing in between, because I was never able to reach a “stable” configuration).
That was in April of this year; hopefully, this has been fixed in newer patch levels. As stated earlier though, my ultimate solution was to remove Vista and install a different OS. I’m sure that this is not the sort of solution that you were looking for, but there it is.
Both “real” RS-232 ports, and USB-to-serial converters were flaky and unpredictable. I don’t know, but it may have more to do with the way the OS handles access to the I/O ports than the ports themselves. Then again, I was only using it for a short time, many patch levels and critical updates ago, so take that into consideration, too.
By all means, if you have both native and USB-based RS-232 available, try them both, and see if one works better than the other.
Well, I got a Parallax USB to Serial (RS-232) Adapter. I let Vista find the drivers (it needed 2 and a reboot). I connected my Brat using the USB adapter and SEQ works fine.
I guess the moral of the story for Vista users is avoid using RS-232 comm ports.
