Sensors for a watering plant robots

Hi guys, I am new in robotics with experiences only in the programming field. I do not know much about electronics and mechanics. As I wanted to make a robot which drives through the plants and make injections with a moisture sensor in order to get some data, how can I do in order to let the robot understand where the vase is and to go very close to it, in order to make an injection to the soil? I read something about Infrared Sensors with IR signature then with the microswitch that changes values when the robot touches the vase. I could not find much, what other sensors can I use?

Thank you for your help

Hi I_D_G,

Making such robot require to understand many different aspect of Robots and Mechanical / Electrical sides as well.
If you want your robot to navigate around vases, it will need some positioning sensors and a way to reach the top of the vase and insert the moisture sensor.

Might be easier to make some wireless sensors and insert one in each vase ?
