Hello.
I’m looking for a sensor and a valve, optical sensor I’m assuming, or any other type for the matter, that could read the speed at what a conveyor belt it is moving and according to the rate of speed, will control a valve, electromagnetic valve or servo actuator
connected to valve, to deliver a certain amount of fluid. i.e. to say I need a constant layer 1/16" thick of compound delivered on a surface 3" wide regardless at what rate of speed the conveyor moves, speed varies, conveyor is manually operated, I cannot change this factor!. I might need to make some adjustments, on the fly, on the amount of fluid delivered. Thanks for looking. Any constructive input is welcome.

Hi,
There are multiple ways to measure the speed of the conveyor belt. Here are a few ideas:
- Using a magnetic strips or glue on the belt and the appropriate sensor to detect the strips. This is then converted to movement speed by a microcontroller or computer connected to the sensor.
- Using a IR / Laser sensor to calculate movement speed of objects on the conveyor belt. This would probably not work in your case since you are carrying a compound.
- Using a encoder connected to the driving roller or its shaft. The encoder data would be converted to a movement speed by a microcontroller or computer connected to the sensor.
For the above solutions, you can find hall sensors and encoders in the RobotShop catalog.
Concerning the distribution of the compound, you can browse our catalog for valves and for motors & actuators.
Sincerely,
Thank you scharette. Your prompt input is invaluable. Appreciated.
