Selection of Sensor

Hi, I have a project of “Automated tracking camera (in a track)” where the sensor should sense human motion and track a human within certain area (6 x 2 m). I am confused about which sensor do I use? Can your help me with this?

I’d use a PC and a web camera, along with a “blob” tracking program. CV or something like that. Also good stuff in ROS.

Alan: I need perpendicular view of the human ,so tracking camera would be the best soln.

Can you have them wear, say, a red shirt?

Another possible solution would be to use a pair of ultrasonic sensors, arranged some distance apart so that you could basically “triangulate”.

Ya I am also thinking of that.As I am capturing side view of human motion, so I am confused about if i place ultrasonic sensor on side of the person moves and person moves right and left to the sensor In this case also sensor will detect motion and give thr distance.

Alan: ya they can wear any thing but maximum distance from camera to human is 10 meter.
Thanks.

Hi,

You can browse our catalog of ultrasonic range finders here. Following Alan’s idea about a specific color to be followed (like a red shirt), you can use a regular web cam and a computer with some software like OpenCV.
Another option for color-based detection would be the Pixy. We also offer a pan & tilt kit for the Pixy to allow movement of the camera.

Sincerely,
