Hi,
I want to verify I’m getting the correct drone for what I want to do.
I’m looking at the Crazy2Fly (lynxmotion.com/p-1055-crazy2fly-quadcopter-base-combo-kit-quadrino-nano-controller.aspx).
I want to eventually fly this drone indoors and avoid objects (computer vision or perhaps infrared, I’m not really sure right now).
Would this quadcopter be a good starter for me?
Thank you!
Yes and no - the Crazy2Fly is an optimized for symmetric acrobatic flight and does not have much in terms of connections to external sensors or accessories
The flight controller however is expandable and will be used for more autonomous / intelligent flight.
You would need to create a custom plate to mount the additional sensors needed for autonomous flight.
It is a medium sized drone which is easier to set up and is actually really fun to learn to fly on.
We are designing the Multirotor Erector Set to be more versatile in regard to adding sensors:

The current product is the HQuad500, and more models are on their way.
Note that very few drones have the software / code needed for full autonomous flight, so you will need to be prepared to write your own code.
Thank you for your help,
Sounds like a good one to start with, even if it doesnt have all the sensors endpoints I want right now
Since it sounds like you’re planning to become really involved in UAVs, you might want to invest in a good 9ch remote control

I’m not so familiar with the Crazy2Fly. But I had the same situation like you when I was going to buy my first drone. I looked for a lot of information and websites. Also asked many old hands. Some people recommended this article to me and gave some tips to pick one. Here’s the article: drone-with-camera.net/best-beginner-quadcopter-top5-2016/
Hope to help you!!!
Now it’s very common to see many people like remote control aircraft , and there are more and more beginner start with it. For this topic about best beginner aircraft I take a different view of it.
About the budget, for beginner, more cheaper more better. Don’t just look at the price of the aircraft, but pay attention to its incidental consumption, such as batteries, etc.
That drone is great for what you’re trying to do, but I would buy a cheaper one to build your skills with as well. I wouldn’t risk $400+ of tech (and the time spent on it) if you don’t understand basic orientation yet. (These drones are all less than $100.)
