Selecting BLDC motor

Output Shaft Speed:** ~1 RPM (very slow, precise rotation)
Required Output Torque:** 50 Nm (continuous)
Control Needs:** Closed-loop preferred (position/speed feedback via encoder)
Voltage:** 24VDC (can be flexible up to 48V if needed)
Form Factor:** Compact preferred, but open to using a gearbox
Duty Cycle:** Intermittent or low-cycle (not continuous rotation, but must be reliable)

  • Looking for driver board recommendations that:
  • Support current limiting
  • Handle startup torque demands
  • Interface well with an MCU or PLC (e.g. via CAN, PWM, UART)
  • Encoder**: Preferably integrated or easy to interface for closed-loop control (quadrature or absolute, depending on price/performance trade-off)
  • Safety/Override**: Optional but a plus if there’s provision for a manual override or brake.

For motor, you can consider Teknic ClearPath SDSK series.
