Seeking Advice for robot project

Hi everyone, im new here, having limited knowledge about electronics, but still trying to build something. Here im seeking advice for my robot project. Using two 5840-31zy dc 24v motors, but using 12v only. Im using Dumborc RC Transmitter & Controller

. I need to know

what i should do with motor controller
can i use Lithium or SLA 12v battery with this controller?
How connections should be so i can drive both motors together forward & backwards , and alternatively one forward & one backward to make turn like tank robot.
Accept my warm thanks in advance.

@DesiBoy Welcome to the RobotShop Community.

To confirm, this is the motor you have?

It seems that regardless of the motor, the stall current is less than 6.4A. Note that operating a 24V motor at 12V will significantly reduce the speed and available torque.

You need a dual channel DC motor controller which can operate at 12V and provide up to around 4A (you don’t need to go up to the full 6.5A stall current) which accepts RC input. This category has RC motor controllers, but you need to check which can provide up to 4A:

For example this is a great choice: Sabertooth Dual 5A R/C 6-18V Regenerative Motor Driver (R/C) - RobotShop

There are many choices for controller, but all can accept Lithium or SLA as input. Some however, like the Sabertooth above, require that you change the configuration when using LiPo batteries. Be sure to read the user guide.

The user guide explains it well. This is a “dual channel” (meaning independent control of two motors) motor controller, where each channel can control one motor in either direction of rotation.

Yes the one on Ali express. Actually i bought from Alibaba.com. they are 24 volt. 160 RPM. But I like to drive on 12 volt to drive slow.

Motor Description

My motors are 24volt 160 RPM

This is the dual channel motor controller i bought from robotshop.

This is the RC Transmitter i have.

Seems to be OK but would have preferred more information about the motors from the manufacturer. Be sure to read through the motor controller user manual in its entirety. Again, simply driving them at half the voltage will affect the rpm (perhaps less than half) and available torque (likely less than half as well).
