Scout or Brat??

I have a question. i am wondering if i the scout is better or is the brat. i say this because even though the scout seems to be more advanced and is better at walking, i see way more things about the brat then the scout. is it just the fact that the brat is only half the price of the scout??if not i would like to know why because i am intersted in buying a scout or a brat. i would appreciate some feedback and some new knoledge.

If you have never built or worked with a biped, then the BRAT is by far the easiest way to get into this type of robot. It really is amazing what many here have done and are doing with the BRAT. Also know that you can expand a BRAT into a Scout if you want to later. Both BRAT and Scout are made from the Servo Erector Set components, so everything can be taken apart, reused, built into something completely different, and added too as you want. You can start with the basic BRAT, and then later expand it by adding hip rotation for the legs, double knee joints, and into anything you want. As you have noted, there is excellent support and much code available for the BRAT from basic to much more advanced configurations.

When I finally do decide to jump in and build a biped, the BRAT will be the way I start out.

I recommend the brat over all other starter biped robots on the internet due to lower cost, expandable, and reusability. The brat is easy to build and easy to learn on. I gave my brat two arms, grippers and a head! The scout is nice but requires more servos which is one of the largest cost to any robot project. The scout requires stronger servos because of the weight, and angles of the legs. Stronger servos = more money.

Absolutely! The Bratinator is by far my favorite BRAT so far, and you have some great videos showing just what can be done with one. You can do some amazing things with a BRAT that has all HS-485 servos, which really keeps the cost down.

I agree with both Mike and Dale about the Brat is a great starting Biped. Mike has a great Brat, also there have been a few Mech-Brats built which are great. If you go this way, which servos you should get depends on your interests and budget. If you are just learning and you just want to play around, then the stock 485 servos work great. If you think you would like to expand later and add arms and/or other things, then you may want to upgrade to at least the 645 servos. But which ever way you go, you can not go wrong.

I can build or program pretty much anything and cost isnt much of an object. i just want something with more capabilities. based on that which should i buy.

I still strongly recommend starting with the BRAT and expanding it as required for what you want to eventually accomplish. The key here is the expandable nature of all SES based robots. The real limitation is your imagination. The only other thing I would recommend, since you eventually want a biped with more capability, is to go with an upgrade to all HS-645 or better servos. I think you may be very much underestimating the capabilities of a stock BRAT. Take a look at what Mike (SN96) has done with his Bratinator

More capabilities than what??? You probably need to specifically list the capabilitys you desire as that appears to be important in your requirements.

Based on what you guys have said i think i will go with the BRAT. for my first project i want to make it into a humanoid type robot.

The Brat is definitely the way to go, even if it has limited degrees of freedom, you will appreciate the simplicity of the design while learning the basics. Once you master the Brat, you will already have several SES brackets that can be reused to make more complex bipeds. The Brat can be molded in to many possible robots, from mech war machines, to soccer kicking to water bottle seeking, screwdriver throwing or target shooting little rug Brats.

Another thing, does anyone no of any cool yet affordable, projects for the Brat. ex. Arms, Mech warrior ect.
