SCORBOT ER3 Shoulder Motor

Hi all,

I have an old SCORBOT motor. Its shoulder motor had only been able to move in one direction and seems stuck to move in the other…The other direction being the direction when the arm’s shoulder wants to move up. So I serviced the motor. Now the motor cannot stop automatically. when it reaches a point below the horizontal, the arm just keeps on moving down until it hits something fixed such that is can’t move no more. Its as if it was lubricated too much.

Before as long as you remove the power when the arm is moving down(shoulder joint), it would stop. Now, when you remove power it just keeps on swinging down until it hits something…

Note that only applied CRC lubricant.

How could the situation be resolved???..

Thanks,
neteng

It sounds like a power issue, but if the robot / motor are quite old, the motor itself may be on its last legs. Can you upload a video or two?
Are you using a power supply which is sufficiently powerful? It sounds like it cannot even overcome its own inertia.

Maybe more torque needed to turn (lift?) in one direction then the other?
DC motors have brushes, they don’t always work as good in one way as the other.
