Scooba 385 - Making Grinding Noises - Video

I recently purchased a Scooba 385 from eBay and I am concerned that it is making a grinding / grating noise - possibly from the gearbox or motor?

I have shot two videos and would be really grateful if anyone could tell me if the noise is normal or not. I have also included links to two other youtube videos of more normal sounding scoobas which I used to try and reference the sound of a healthy scooba.

These are videos I shot of the Scooba I received:
My Scooba - Kitchen: youtu.be/QZxNW_HmvyU
The grinding noise is pretty much constant

My Scooba - Bathroom: youtu.be/rYWau6qg3JQ
The grinding noise is happening intermittently

Normal Scoobas in operation:

Thanks in advance for any help I receive!

Hi Julie,

Thanks for your reply.

I have cleaned the brush several times (and made sure it was sitting correctly when put back into the scooba) and I alo removed the tires as you suggested (both were very clean), but when first started the Scooba was still making the grinding noise almost constantly.

I am going to run the Scooba through another cycle and see if the debris in the impeller clears.

Well the problem persists and after running the BIT (built in test) it turns out the Tank LED and Brush LEDs are not operational either.

I am going to return this Scooba to the seller and find one in better condition.

Thanks for your help!

Thanks again Julie!

I feel sorry for the little fella, he has obviously been mistreated and I would love to nurse him back to health but unless the seller is willing to refund most of the purchase price I am afraid he will have to go back.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Scooba. The grinding noice could come from a few areas. We suggest that you remove and clean your Scooba brush. Please also verify the wheels. You can flip the robot on its back with the tank removed and turn the wheels manually. The wheels should trun with little resistance. Please verify for hair or debris in the wheels. You can pop the wheels slightly out of the robot by pressing the clips on the side and remove the tire screw to verify if there is any hair under the tire. It very likely that the wheels gets dirty and much be cleaned.

If this does not fix the sound issue, the grinding noise could come from the robots vacuum. Sometimes debris can get caught in the impeller and cause this type of noise. But, the impeller is deep inside the robot and the robot would need to be taken apart in order to verify.

Sorry to hear that your Scooba is sick and will need to be returned. Do not hesitate if you need any help in the future.
