Hi, I’m doing Science Olympiad and my event is obviously Robo-Cross. I need a robot under $350 USD. I need to be able to modify it, so when I say 350 dollars, more like the total cost of everything, including modifications. I needs to be able to pick up ping-pong balls, tennis balls, 2x4 Legos and 4 stacks of four pennies. Please help! I’m a little short on time.
Does the robot need to be autonomous or remotely controlled?
Consider that a simply RC robot like the beetle can do everything you need:

If you need something a bit more professional, consider the stacker (you’ll need to create custom modifications to the gripper):

Note that this is not a complete kit - additional parts needed are suggested in the product description.
CBenson, I did in fact look at the stacker robot. I have a worry that picking pennies off the floor may be a challenge. You also said that I would have to make custom modifications to the gripper. What do you mean by that? Like, could you give me a good gripper or something? I must admit, I’m pretty new to the world of robotics. I frankly have no idea what I’m doing. Also, my robot does have to be remote controlled.
The gripper does not reach completely to the ground and as such, could not pick up a penny. You would need to create custom extensions or add-ons which would extend the gripper do that it touched the ground and could pick up the penny.
The Stacker is driven using servo motors (sold separately), so aside from the robot, you need the servos, an R/C remote and a main battery.
